"Walk the Line: The Story of the Bagenalstown to Palace East Railway" is a KCLR96fm documentary following this historical railway.
The track was built by Lord Baganel, after whom the Carlow town was named, and opened in the 1850s. It was a freight and passenger train until the 1930s, after when it carried freight alone before its demise in the early 1960s.
This line existed through possibly the most changing times Ireland has seen - from the end of the famine, through to the formation of the state and both World wars.
This documentary is based on a paper written by J.P O'Dea, published in the Journal of the Irish Railway Records Society in October 1972 (www.irrs.ie).
The programme explores the places, stories, characters and history of this sleepy line, connecting Carlow, Kilkenny and North Wexford.
It is led by two railway enthusiasts, Jim Deegan and Frank Cronin, as well as former halt keeper, Mollie Carroll.
The music for this documentary was composed and recorded exclusively by Clive Barnes.
